Our Why

We strive to empower youth, not just on the field, but in life.

At Sports for Amateur Athletes (SAA), we envision a world where every child, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the opportunity to engage in sports that inspire them. We see a future where financial constraints, lack of resources, or limited access do not hinder a child’s ability to participate in sports. Our vision is to break down these barriers and create an inclusive, supportive, and nurturing environment that fosters positive personal development through sports.

Sports for Amateur Athletes believe in the transformative power of sports. Our mission is to empower every young athlete to engage in their chosen sport and excel in their personal development. We strive to nurture a healthier, happier, and resilient generation of young athletes.

Who We Are

Your Actions, Our Legacy

We are a team of dedicated individuals, volunteers, and supporters working together to provide opportunities, resources, and mentorship for athletes at every level. Our mission is to empower, inspire, and uplift the next generation of champions, regardless of background or circumstance.

These statistics indicate that financial stability and resources significantly impact the ability of youth in the United States to participate in sports.

  • 59% of families experience financial strain from their children’s sports.
  • Youths ages 6-18 from low-income homes quit sports because of the financial costs at six times the rate of kids from high-income homes.
  • While 54.1% of children aged 6–17 years participated in sports during a 12 month span, only 27.5% of children from homes with incomes under $25,000 a year play sports compared to the 45.5% of kids from homes with incomes greater than $100,000 a year.

The lack of participation in sports due to financial instability or lack of resources can have several negative impacts on youth:

1. Physical Health: Children and adolescents who do not participate in sports are at a greater risk for obesity³.
2. Socioeconomic Disparities: Youth from low-income homes quit sports due to financial costs at six times the rate of kids from high-income homes². This can lead to a widening gap in opportunities and experiences between socioeconomic groups.

3. Safety Concerns: Low-income kids who do not participate in organized sports are more likely to live in high-crime neighborhoods, increasing their chances of getting into trouble.

4. Reduced Opportunities: Participation in sports can provide opportunities for scholarships and college admissions. Kids from lower-income families who don’t participate in sports may miss out on these opportunities.

5. Time Constraints: Lower-income kids often have family responsibilities, such as caring for siblings or earning money from a job, which can prevent them from participating in sports².

These factors highlight the importance of making sports accessible to all youth, regardless of their financial situation. It’s not just about playing a game; it’s about the lifelong benefits that come from participation in sports.Read More
